The reason is simple. I really want keep a music diary.

I have been doing it since March this year. I didn’t spend too long on the design and I like this design, this is my first experiment with dynamic content with the help of Jquery. It works wonderfully and is very appealing. But what took me so long was that there is a minor problem with Opera users which is forcing me to give up using this layout.

Since I have made this specifically to fit embed videos. The problem is that I am using the
overflow:hidden
CSS property here. In the Opera browser
overflow:hidden
does not apply to the
<object>
HTML tag. In other words,
<object>
will not be hidden which cause something like this:

And I am trying to find a way out here.

Everyone, I wish you a Happy New Year!!

Yet another new theme

Sometimes I seriously think I am changing my blog design too frequently. This is the third time since August. That is, 3 times in half a year. Isn’t is too much? Nevertheless, I have had this idea for a long time (still, not so long) but it is a new year, and it needs a new start.

I have been with this blog for half a year and I think I got to have a direction. During this time I got in touch with some designer-bloggers and we agreed that there are many design blogs out there now. Such as… (You can list them!)

I think this is what I want now– A personal gallery-blog. The idea had made me into creating this theme. Instead of bunches of wordy texts I prefer showing my visitors images on the front page like a gallery.

I hope you all like the new look, and here’s a screenshot of the old theme if you missed it!

Any feedback or comment about the new look? Feel free to leave me a comment below.

When I started blogging I did not manage to keep things tidy – when blogging every tiny piece has to be organized. I learned that things do not stay still with a style sheet, but the way you blog. At the beginning I messed up with my “tags” with random words, such as, there were some tags called “photo” and “photos”. Obviously, they mean the same thing and you wanted to reach the posts on one page, but with different tag names they ended up separate (it also affects the look of your tag cloud and stops you from using one). In Wordpress there is no such function to “delete” or “rename” a tag like “category” does. So it seemed that the only way to edit the tags is to edit them in each post which is very time consuming.

Mass Edit Tags:

“Simple Tags” Plugin allows you to do most things on tags (rename, delete, merge, search, add tags, edit tags ID). Furthermore, you can manage the tags in posts which you have published in one goal! This way it will save you so much time than having to edit them in each post.

Auto Tags, Tags Suggestion:

Another feature of the plugin is “Auto tags”. When you write a post it will show tags you have added before (below the “Tags” input area), with this you will never (or rarely) get repeated tag names like “photo” and “photos”. You simply click on the tag you have added, or choose tags suggested by Yahoo Term Extractions API, Tag The Net and Local Tags with AJAX request.

Additional function- Related posts:

Since it does it in a smart way. It also offers a function to put a list of “Related posts” in your entries according to their tags. Just like the one below this post (alternatively, there are many similar plugins out there which do the same job)

So, Happy tagging! =]

Go to Plugin homepage

I cover many topics on my blog and I am pretty sure not everyone is interested in everything I write. For this reason I wanted to create category feeds for my blog, that is, instead of having to subscribe everything on this blog you can subscribe to a specific category feed.

I googled it and found that to actually do it was quite straight forward. Yes, it was, but it just doesn’t seem to work on my blog. Here is the little trick I got from Peachpit. To generate a feed for a specific category you simply add “feed=rss2&” in between the “?” and the category name so it would look like this:

http://athenaemily.com/?cat=6 into

http://athenaemily.com/?feed=rss2&cat=6

As for my blog since I have the FeedBurner plugin installed, whenever I tried to do the trick it forces it to redirect to my FeedBurner feed which is very annoying. Finally came across with an article by Christian Spanring and finally found my way out using Yahoo! Pipes. I have seen many bloggers covered things about Yahoo! Pipes but I could never be bothered to use it. Now using this pipe helps me to create a feed for a specific category! Woohoo, but for the actual feeds to work I still have to consider where to place those links so it will probably take me some time, but I will tell you when they are done =). With many thanks to Christian Spanring.
